I believe in the U.S. Constitution, and in the rule of law.

I believe that capitalism works, creating wealth that improves life for everyone. I also believe in the power of government (and only government) to do the biggest things – to end slavery, to stop genocide, to create a safety net for all, to control climate change, to mitigate natural disasters, and to safeguard our civil liberties. Because I believe in both of these things, I believe both in getting rich by working hard, and also in a circa 1950 progressive tax structure.

I believe that the American prison system is modern slavery, and that we must end it.

I believe that we should listen to experts. I know that the scientific method produces facts–facts like gravity, evolution, and climate change. These facts do not care about our feelings, or about what is convenient or easy.

I believe that honesty and integrity are fundamental in life and in politics. I put my trust in those who would bring us together in compassion, and I stand against those who would drive us apart in fear.

I believe that my children can inherit a better world than the world that I grew up in, if we have the courage to make that world together.

I believe that government is something we should be proud of, and consider ourselves a part of.

I voted for Elizabeth Warren today.
